PaidContent: Google Launches Japanese News-Search…Without Yomiuri
PaidContent pointed to a Japanese news account of Googles September 1 launch of the Japanese version of Google News. The site failed to include the biggest Japanese newspaper as part of its policy to leave alone those sites that choose not to be indexed. The paper, the Yomiuri Shimbun, has been getting tiffy with aggregator sites, claiming that even listing headlines violates its copyrights. Japanese judges disagreed this past March, but that case is on appeal. Yomiuri sources said Google executives visited the newspaper the day before launch and was again refused permission to list headlines. Yahoo pays Yomiuri for news content.
