Google, NASA Link Up for Research

Google announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with NASA on research, and that it plans to develop a 1-million-square-foot complex within the NASA Research Park in Mountain View, California, near the Googleplex, reports Red Herring. Google and NASA plan to cooperate in areas such as supercomputing, large-scale data management and bio-info-nano convergence.

"Google and NASA share a common desire—to bring a universe of information to people around the world," Google CEO Eric Schmidt is quoted as saying. "Imagine having a wide selection of images from the Apollo space mission at your fingertips whenever you want it."

Google and NASA also intend to develop an educational and research campus at the vast Ames facility that would include laboratories, offices, classrooms, housing, auditoriums, a training and conference center, and retail facilities.

NASA will partner with other local, nonprofit, academic, government and private organizations to expand the research center.
