Google Improves its Non-Web Search

CNET: Google updates enterprise search appliance

Google updated its internal corporate search product today, releasing a version that can index up to 1.5 million documents and 300 queries per minute, about five times the speed the earlier version boasted. The enterprise product cannot take advantage of some of Google's famous web technologies, like its licensed PageRank algorithm, because the corporate documents tend to lack the links on which the web version of Google relies.

In a separate AP story, Google is shown as using this IT effort as a means to prove it isn't completely reliant on ad revenues.
