Google is testing a new feature that allows AdWords advertisers to bid on specific websites and tutors potential advertisers on how to be included in a relevant group of AdSense advertisements on a publisher's site writes AskDaveTaylor (via ReveNews). The likely upshot is that more advertisers will seek out specific content that is relevant for their ad audiences and will advertise on such sites.
An "Advertise on this site" link that appears above ads on select sites takes potential advertisers to a Google-hosted landing page customized for the publisher, explains ClickZ. The page describes that site and explains how to buy an AdWords site-targeted ad that would appear on the site. Site-targeted ads are on a CPM basis.
"The 'Advertise on this site' link is a shortcut that makes it easy for advertisers to run ads on a specific Google partner site…. Google helps the advertiser create an ad and begin running it on that site - often on the same day," according to Google.
ClickZ points out that the Google feature comes amid increased competition for publisher distribution, with Yahoo preparing to officially launch a network for smaller publishers and MSN soon rolling out its adCenter globally.
