PaidContent points to a PCWorld story on how Google is granting Agence France Presse's apparent wish to be removed from all Google News listings. A quick search this morning showed only 13,100 "(AFP)" listings, almost all of which were attributions to the AFP in stories from other news services. Interestingly, Google has not yet done the same in its search listings, which show almost 10 million documents relevant to the same search, most of which contain AFP stories. The lawsuit AFP filed, if litigated to an adverse conclusion for Google, may have implications for what search engines may index. AFP is maintaining that it has the right to control the use of its headlines, excerpts and other elements that have long been considered fair use material.
