Google has been quite successful while eschewing traditional marketing, relying on its relentless new product releases and low-hype public relations to give it a good brand impression. McCaffrey's departure comes as rumors persist that Google is seeking an ad agency, which would indicate a significant change in strategic course. McCaffrey, an old industry hand going back to relatively early Apple Computer days - where MarketingVOX staff first encountered her - remains one of the best-known PR executives in Silicon Valley.
