Google Comm Chief Resigns

Cindy McCaffrey, Google's top PR official who was also responsible generally for marketing and communications, will leave the company, becoming in some ways the most senior person to leave. Google has been quite successful while eschewing traditional marketing, relying on its relentless new product releases and low-hype public relations to give it a good brand impression. McCaffrey's departure comes as rumors persist that Google is seeking an ad agency, which would indicate a significant change in strategic course. McCaffrey, an old industry hand going back to relatively early Apple Computer days - where MarketingVOX staff first encountered her - remains one of the best-known PR executives in Silicon Valley.
