Google to Shut Down Gmail Germany if Bundestag Passes Surveillance Law

The German Bundestag

Google is threatening to shut down its German version of Gmail if Bundestag, Germany's Parliament, passes its new Internet surveillance law, according to Spiegel (via).

The new law would automatically save all connection data from the Internet, phone and SMS created by German citizens for six months starting in 2008. The move is designed to thwart terrorists, but of course brings up heavy privacy concerns.
