Google Stoic After Facebook Loss; May Find Partner for Wireless Bid

Microsoft wins treat,
Google moves on

Google is reportedly taking its loss of Facebook's advertising inventory to Microsoft with a grain of salt.

The search and ad giant is moving deftly onto other ventures, including its potential bid on available wireless spectrum, reports Agence France-Presse.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt commented on the loss, saying it was clear people are going to be members of multiple social networks, and that Facebook was by no means the only such network out there.

Schmidt also said it's possible Google will find a strategic partner to join in a bid for portions of the wireless spectrum coming up for auction.

Beyond that, he dismissed the idea of a Gphone in the offing, saying Google would not be going to be going into the telephony business.

The company's goal is to provide open access to internet players through the spectrum it might win, Schmidt stated.

Last month, reports abounded that Google would be helping to set a broadband cable infrastructure under the Pacific.
