Rumors are circulating that business management software company Salesforce.com may be acquired by Google, reports The Globe & Mail.
Analysts and commentators peg the two companies as a natural match for a number of reasons. Salesforce's software, like Google's suite of applications, is available over the Internet and does not need to be installed on every computer.
Both also see Microsoft as a competitor: Salesforce provides similar management software and Google is chasing the same search market. Salesforce also encourages customers to use the free Google Apps software for word processing and spreadsheet creation.
Neither company would comment on talks between the two. Stock prices for both were up amid the rumors. It's likely that, if an acquisition occurs, Google will include Salesforce's software into its Apps offerings.
