Google Peddles Ads for NBCU

NBCU signed a multi-year partnership with Google to have the search giant sell advertising on some of its cable nets, reports MediaBuyerPlanner.

Through Google TV Ads, Google will sell ads Sci Fi, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth and Chiller, with other channels possible in the future, writes Reuters.

The Google TV Ads service offers second-by-second TV usage data via an existing deal with Dish Network. NBCU and Google say the partnership will help make TV ads more accountable. Both companies will share revenue, and NBCU will have the right to set parameters for the purchase of ad time, said the Washington Post.

Google's tentative foray into TV advertising had been limited by its lack of reach. Critics of Google TV point out that the second-by-second measurement comes from a relatively small pool of television viewers, as Dish Network reaches just 13 million households.

NBCU and Google shall collaborate to make the Google TV service workable in local TV markets. The companies are also working together on custom marketing and research projects that use Google TV Ads to track audience trends.
