Mobile search
Google Search for mobile is now able to work out where searchers are — and serve local advertising based on that data, reports Search Engine Land.
The company uses cell tower IDs to triangulate a phone's location, which is then taken into account when a user runs a search. A similar location-identifying service is available on Google Maps for mobile. The technology is reportedly accurate to within 200 meters.
Search for mobile includes ad support, which over time could be terraced to a user's current location.
