Google Maps Gives Walkers, PT Commuters a Boost

Google Maps added a directions feature for people planning to take public transit, or walk to a given destination. To access them, users may click on "By car," "Public Transit," or "Walking" in the Search results sub-nav:

Maps occasionally incorporates small business reviews, a functionality that could be put to better use for walkers, which are more likely to make local stops than a vehicle.

In July 2007 Google enabled users to incorporate Maps in customizable "mash-ups," which it hoped would boost use of the tool. Maps is also among the few tools that Google advertises across traditional media.
