Just say no
By placing a two-year expiration date on cookies if users do not return to a site, and auto-extending cookie length for return visitors, Google hopes to address a number of privacy issues levied in part by its ever-increasing scope.
The policy change was announced by Google's Global Policy Counsel Peter Fleischer on Monday, according to Wired.
At present, the cookie giant sets cookies to expire in the 2030s, which Fleischer says helps keep users from losing beneficial preferences.
Privacy, however, demanded slightly more restraint, according to Fleischer. But according to Wired, Google users who do not make a habit of destroying their cookies will continue to have their search history recorded quite diligently.
