Google has announced the acquisition of Postini, an e-mail security firm, for $625 million, reports Reuters.

The deal will make Postini a wholly-owned subsidiary of the search/advertising giant. The firm's security services will allow Google to provide more hosted services along the lines of the Google Apps suite to businesses.

Postini currently has 35,000 business clients, totaling 10 million users.
