Google Advertisers See Click Improvements

Back on top

Investors have begun to worry whether Google's plummeting click-through rate reflects the company's sensitivity to the economy.

But advertisers in Google's Content Network appear happier with the lower click-through, interpreting it as the fruit of Google's efforts to improve click quality, ClickZ reports.

Past-year efforts by Google to improve click quality include:

  • The introduction of new ad formats and units in search results
  • Shrinking the clickable area of an ad to prevent accidental clicks
  • Cracking down on domain tasters in tangent with ICANN

One major improvement has been in the level of reporting available to advertisers. They can now see information on where ads ran, how long they were there, and ad performance in those slots.

All that data has led to increased confidence in the Google ad platform, following a restored sense of control.

Advertisers also say Google does a better job of locating spam blogs and sites meant solely to run AdSense ads, then barring them from advertising.
