ZDNet UK: Big Brother turns its eye to Gmail
Privacy International (PI) said Gmail is on track to win one of its not-very-coveted Big Brother awards, a trophy given to people, companies or governments that do the most to pose a threat to privacy. PI said in a release that it was miffed Google had declined to meet with it and several other privacy advocacy groups. But the main reason PI singled out the search giant was because of its new Gmail service, its beta program that gives users vast amounts of storage space and serves up context-based ads next to messages.
