Pictures Paint Words, But Not as Many as Songs Do, Thinks Getty

The Soundtrack site

Those seeking to add panache to an ad campaign can now purchase music tracks on Getty Images, thanks to Getty's US$ 42 million purchase of Pump Audio last June.

Dubbed Soundtrack, the service eliminates the time and effort involved in searching and tracking down labels in order to purchase a song's license.

According to TechCrunch, prices can be as low as US$ 42, plus 5 percent of ad revenue for a song being played on a web-based show; US$ 450 for a cable show; and US$ 2,100 for a regional ad.

Prices jump dramatically if the song is connected with an artist and label. Given the new exposure song licensing will have due to the Getty site, TechCrunch has faith it will push those prices down to a more reasonable level.

Getty already owns a cache of stock photography and the largest microstock photo service, iStockPhoto.
