I was just browsing on NYTimes.com when I noticed this text ad for the hip NYC weblog Gawker, apparently part of Google's Content-Targeted Ads.
Oddly, the ad seemed extremely well targeted to me, as Gawker's editor Elizabeth Spiers and its publisher Nick Denton are good friends of mine, and the ad was served to me when I searched NYTime's archives for "Peter Maass" who is a correspondent for the newspaper and also a mutual friend of mine, Nick's and Liz's. I'm going to put it down to coincidence and not super creepy efficient ad targeting on Google's part, but who knows…
