CNET: Gator sheds skin, renames itself
The Gator Corporation is going through a renaming to Claria. The company has been the target of several lawsuits by companies that felt the Gator pop-up network effectively stole user attention from their publishing or advertising sites. Several of these have been settled already, but the predatory connotations of Gator probably don't help from a brand perspective. The company has also had a very difficult time distinguishing its disclosure-festooned adware from the more sleazy versions produced by other companies that have earned the name spyware.
