Gates Fends off Rumors that Vista Is Overhyped

Attempting to soothe the sting of a recent comment that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made about "overly aggressive" Windows Vista 2008 revenue forecasts, Bill Gates on Tuesday said Vista had been very well received, reports Reuters (via Wired).

"People who sell PCs have seen a very nice lift in their sales. People have come in and wanted to buy Vista," Gates told reporters at an Ottawa news conference.

Vista launched three weeks ago, touting a $500 million marketing budget and a prediction that consumers would move to Vista faster than they did to previous Windows upgrades.

"The reviews have been fantastic. This is a big, big advance in the Windows platform. It's the world's most used piece of software… Overall, the reliability feedback has been well better than we expected," Gates said.
