News and information company Gannett has acquired local search company Planet Discover, nearly a year after having bought rich media firm PoinRoll, reports MediaPost. Financial terms were not disclosed. Gannett plans to integrate Planet Discover's local search into its online newspapers and other web properties.
"With this new relationship, we will move more emphatically into deep, robust local search for our 100-plus websites," Jack Williams, president of Gannett Digital, said in a statement.
Planet Discover plans to continue working with its existing clients, including other newspapers. It also powers search for various travel and tourism sites.
"Gannett is exactly the kind of partner we need…. There are huge opportunities in local search, and Planet Discover is superbly positioned to take advantage of them," Terry Millard, president and CEO of Planet Discover, said in a statement.
Millard and his brother, Todd Millard, Planet Discover's chief technology officer, will remain with the company, which is located in Covington, KY, and Cedar Rapids, IA.
