Fashion - especially luxury fashion - came slowly to social media and related ad technologies. However as the industry quickly catches up, gaming appears to be the next format it will adopt.
Inside Social Games notes that as developers become more adept at offering gamers tools for user-generated content, the medium has significant potential.
The top fashion games on Facebook, it reports, are It Girl, Mall World Game, Yoville and Fashion Designer.
Fashion Designer is the only one that allows players to vote on or purchase user-made items for use within their own game, Inside Social Games says.
"It Girl has had sponsored stores selling branded virtual goods for outfitters like Old Navy; but what if a fashion game could offer coutuer branded virtual goods? The possibilities are certainly there and it’s looking like the genre is far from saturated at this point," it concluded.
Such possibilities are at least a year out if not more. Gaming is still such a niche category in this space that few of the specialty retailers in NYU’s Luxury Lab’s think tank’s annual Digital IQ Index gave it much focus.
