Mod Shop Makes Creative Outlet for Pimping Up PCs

Beware: the Doom PC rig

What if custom motorcycle builder Jesse James gave up cars and put his creative energy into building custom PCs?

Publisher Future US has fulfilled that "what if" with a new site called the Mod Shop, showcasing custom-built PC hardware.

At the Mod Shop, computer modders, upgraders and artists of all experience levels share and promote their computer creations with photos, work logs, how-to articles, and more.

From Doom-inspired PC rigs to "thermodynamically impossible chip cooling," experts and amateurs alike will converge to showcase their talents and learn a thing or two.

The Mod Shop is promoting itself with a monthly "NCAA-style" tournament, giving away more than $2,000 in cash and prizes courtesy of Windows Vista Ultimate.

The Mod Shop community votes on which hot-rod computers will make it to the next round, taking that rig into the next monthly tournament to fight it out gladiator-style.
