DM News: FTC Moves to Limit Affiliate Marketing
A 2003 law targeting the common banking practice of selling customer information without their permission will finally be implemented by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC announced new proposed rules yesterday and is accepting comments through part of July. The law forces financial institutions to first secure permission from customers before selling the information to affiliates. The rule does not appear to affect the online practice, also termed affiliate marketing, of companies outsourcing their customer acquisition efforts without sharing any personal data.
