FTC Sues 'Lonely Housewives' Spammers

The Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against three California men, accusing them of violating provisions of the Can-Spam Act by sending out spam that advertises sexually explicit websites, AdWeek reports. Filed in Illinois U.S. District Court, the suit accuses the three of sending out millions of email messages advertising "lonely housewives" on more than 180 sites operated by their companies: Cleverlink Trading Limited and Real World Media. The FTC said the group used compromised computer networks to send the spam and obscure its source. Microsoft aided the FTC to track down the spam ring.
