IAR: FTC to E-tailers: Don't Be Naughty!
Santa's sleigh is still in the shop, elves teeming over it like a Nascar pit crew. In the sky last night, instead, was the Federal Trade Commission holiday sledge, pulled by magical sniffing tapirs, checking out e-commerce sites to determine which ones are naughty and which are nice.
In their flight, they found that 37 of the 51 checked sites had potential problems, ranging from warranties and shipping claims to rebate policies. Under these sites' trees were left letters wrapped in clean, white FTC envelopes, warning of impending enforcement actions. There were even cookies, of sorts.
