FTC Chair Still Negative, but Open on Do-Not-Spam Registry

DM News: Muris Still Skeptical Of Do-Not-E-Mail List

Timothy Muris, the Federal Trade Commission chairman who didn't endear himself to email users last year when he pooh-poohed the idea of a do-not-spam registry, said that he remains open-minded to the concept. Between then and now, Congress passed a law requiring his agency to study the matter and report back in about two months.

Muris said that he had seen nothing to change his mind, but that he didn't discount the possibility that the process will turn up something that will make him think such a registry could be useful. Right now, he has said, it wouldn't be worth the effort, as spammers are already disobeying many laws as it is.
