Friends for Now: TiVo, DirecTV Jointly to Sell Ads

ClickZ reports that TiVo and DirecTV have agreed to facilitate the sale of ads on DirecTV digital video recorders (DVRs) that come with TiVo service. Both companies will sell ads, each retaining its respective revenue. The TiVo-DirecTV relationship will end in 2007, when DirecTV parent News Corp replaces the TiVo option on its boxes with its own DVR product. Most of TiVo's interactive advertising sales have come in the TiVo Showcase, a section of the service where subscribers can explore longer-form commercial messages.
