French Producer Sues Google for Distributing Film

Google's copyright issues abroad continue to multiply, with the producer of the film "The World According to Bush" has taken legal action against Google Video France for distributing the film.

French production house Flach Film announced last week that it had issued a writ before a Paris commercial court against Google and its French arm, Google France, for copyright infringement, Reuters reports. In a statement, Flach Film declared such practices threaten the development of a legal internet video market. Google confirmed that it had removed all links to the film after receiving a complaint from Flach Film.

Jean-Francois Lepetit, the producer of the film, told Reuters that "The World According to Bush" had been downloaded about 50,000 times, and that his losses as a result were over $600,000.

This lawsuit comes after Google recently settled a copyright suit with two groups representing Belgian photographers and journalists. A similar suit with French journalists has also been filed and will be heard early next year.
