FreeWebs Becomes Webs.com, Jumps into Social Gaming

Dragracing goes digital

Freewebs is expanding — from helping users create personal websites, to becoming a social media hub — under the name Webs.com.

In addition to Freewebs, Webs.com will serve social publishing site Pagii and a new property called the Social Gaming Network.

The Social Gaming Network builds gaming apps for social networks. Game apps currently available, including Fight Club, Street Race, and Blocky, are exclusively for Facebook, though TechCrunch mentioned an app for OpenSocial seems likely.

The games work like any other app. They can be added to Facebook profiles, and connected friends can compete with one another in various tests of skill and savvy.

Other game developers taking advantage of the bonds of social networking include Meebo-collaborator Kongregate and King.
