Fred Thompson Aims for Republican 'Blogger-in-Chief'

"Law & Order" star and former Senator Fred Thompson is aiming for the title blogger-in-chief of the Republican party as he gears up for a 2008 presidential bid, reports Reuters.

Thompson contributes frequently to conservative websites, posting on a range of topics from the French election to the Middle East, and the immigration debate.

Blogging has become the arguable core of campaigns in the digital age. But though all presidential bids maintain a blog of some kind, campaign workers are too often the ones doing the posting. Thompson appears organically enthusiastic about expressing his thoughts to the blogosphere.
For example, when Thompson sounded off about filmmaker Michael Moore traveling to Cuba, Moore's response touched on the ex-Senator's fondness for Cuban cigars. Thompson shot back with a video response complete with Cuban cigar.

Thompson's transparency on issues is helping him shoot up in national polls in the Republican presidential field, though it's fueled in part by conservative dissatisfaction with the other 10 candidates.
