MarketWatch reporter Bambi Francisco has resigned from the news site after creating a website of her own that created a conflict of interest, reports the New York Times.
Francisco recently launched Vator.tv, a site presenting videos of heads of startups making pitches for venture capital funding. The conflict of interest occurred because Francisco then reported for MarketWatch on companies that had used Vator.tv.
MarketWatch's editor-in-chief, David Callaway initially approved Francisco's arrangement, apparently with the understanding that she would not write about companies using Vator.tv. He later amended it to bring it into line with the rest of Dow Jones's ethics standards.
A Dow Jones statement put Francisco's departure in terms of her opting for the full-time pursuit of her venture. Francisco says she used sound judgment in her choices of what to write about.
