Die Hard 4 goes digital
20th Century Fox will be the first studio to include a digital file version in an upcoming DVD release.
Hitting stores November 20, the DVD version of Live Free or Die Hard includes a disc with two digital versions of the action movie — one for the PC, and another for digital players compatible with Windows' PlaysForSure technology.
The files include a DRM protection system that prompts users for a serial code from the DVD package prior to downloading, which takes about five minutes and does not include special features.
The primary reason for including a digital version of the film is for convenience's sake, providing viewers a way to watch "however they want," according to Video Business.
It is also hoped this accessibility will also prevent actions of piracy by DVD owners.
Time Warner announced similar plans for its Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix DVD, when it hits stores December 11.
