For Latest Oeuvre, Dylan Appeals to YouTube

Friend to many ladies

To promote the new 3-disc collection, Dylan, Sony BMG and Bob Dylan have launched a contest on YouTube to create a music video for the classic single Like a Rolling Stone.

The plan is to string together a "diverse range of fans" lip-syncing to the song.

Dylan is the latest example of musicians using the web in unique ways to reach fans.

Earlier this month, Radiohead snubbed iTunes and sold its latest album on its website with a twist: fans could pay whatever amount they wished for it.

Meanwhile, Nelly launched a contest asking fans to help spread the word online about his new album, using storybook app Panraven as his hype tool.
