The Federal Election Commission last week said a group of political blogs was exempt from the requirements of the McCain-Feingold Act because it engaged mainly in news gathering and distribution, and its costs therefore do not constitute corporate contributions that fall under regulation promulgated by the Act, writes MediaPost.
"Because Fired Up is a press entity, and neither it nor its websites are owned or controlled by any political party, political committee or candidate, the costs Fired Up incurs in covering or carrying a news story, commentary, or editorial on its websites are exempt from the definition of 'contribution' and 'expenditure,'" wrote the FEC.
