SITE: FCC to look at digital radio piracy?
Consumer groups complained to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that the recording industry's efforts to force specific anti-piracy technologies on the nascent satellite audio broadcast business would prove stifling. While not publicly acknowledged by the recording industry for the FCC, the groups were responding to reports that the Commission planned to introduce a broadcast tagging system similar to that approved last year for television. The technology could prove a deliberate impediment to Tivo-like services that would otherwise allow listeners to shift music to be played at times they prefer.
