FBI to Out 'Wanted' Convicts on Digital Billboards

Clear Channel Outdoor has inked a formal agreement with the FBI to display "wanted" messages on its digital billboards.

The decision follows the successful capture of three fugitives in Philly, after their information was repeatedly broadcast on Clear Channel Outdoor's digital billboards.

The FBI will now be free to display high-security and "hot pursuit" messages of other criminals on allotted signage. Clear Channel will give them access to about 150 nationwide.

"Some of the most valuable information provided to law enforcement officials is anonymous, which is one of the advantages of billboards," said Community Relations Unit Chief Brett Hovington of the FBI. "They offer a degree of separation between the tipster and the authorities.”

In addition to occasional advertising, the Clear Channel billboards also broadcast weather news and AMBER alerts.
