Fat Boy on Weather.com

Mediapost: Weather.com Launches Half Page Ads

Big ads are coming faster and faster:

Larger ads are al the rage these days in the online advertising world. Following the example of several major publishers, including New York Times Digital, Forbes.com and CBS MarketWatch, Weather.com yesterday announced it has secured its first advertiser utilizing the site's 300×600 ad unit, which was specifically designed to strategically position the ad so that it can be viewed in its entirety along with weather.com content.

I'm posting this, not to highlight Weather.com, or AA, the client that's using the new size, but to point out that yet another publisher has taken the leap to the BAA (big-ass-ad) format for their clients. It'll be interesting to see over time, if this is the 'silver bullet' that lets publisher see better CPMs and thus greatly improved revenues, while also satisfying the real need of advertising clients' ROI needs. We'll see, but something tells me its more than just BAA placements…
