'Family Guy' Creator Pilots Google Content Network

Mr. MacFarlane

Google has partnered with "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane for a content distribution pilot, reports The New York Times.

The program turns Google's AdSense network into a distribution vehicle, officially called the Google Content Network. Original episodes of "Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy" will syndicated via AdSense to select partner sites.

MacFarlane helped create some of the ads — including pre-roll spots, banner overlays or a "brought to you by" message — which will be integrated into the shows. Revenue will be split between MacFarlane, Google and the publisher.

If the pilot fares well, advertisers can safely assume Google shall unveil other plans for its Content Network. Disseminating videos through AdSense may even eat into the market share of original video programming hubs.
