Buy.com is holding a garage sale and is using the front lawn of Facebook to display its wares, reports The Associated Press.
The application, which can be added to Facebook profiles like any of the other widgets available, lets users list items for sale right on their profile pages. Buy.com says the functionality is good for everyone, including Facebook, which could see increased pageviews, and - perhaps more relevant - lengthened periods of time spent on the site, while people browse items for sale.
Sellers may receive funds either by check or from PayPal. The garage sale also seeks to tap into the fact that buyers and sellers know each other, which could increase rate of adoption.
The site intends to expand the scope of the widgets to include all items available on Buy.com. They'll also be offering an API in the near future for people to add the functionality to other sites.
