Cream of the data crop
Facebook has sent a cryptic invitation to advertisers for an event in New York City, where the company will announce what is presumed to be a new ad platform.
The invitation invites advertisers to come to an event with Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook execs on November 6th.
At the event, the invitation promises, the Facebook team will "unveil a new way of advertising online."
While specifics are scarce, speculation runs high that this will be where and when Facebook unveils a much-awaited advertising-targeting product.
What's more, it may also be technology that targets users based on non-Facebook online behavior.
Whatever the product is, the odds are good it will take advantage of the wealth of personal data Facebook users put into the system of their own volition — including political affiliations, group affiliations, relationship status, and interests.
