Facebook, Google Continue Their Pursuit of Brands With New Admin Features

Both Google+ and Facebook continue their avid pursuit of brands to their networks, tweaking, yet again, their admin offerings.

Improvements to Google+ Pages

Google+ has added several upgrades to its Pages feature.

Users can now delegate up to 50 named managers as administrators for a page—one of the early complaints about the Pages.

There is also a new notification flow meant to help managers stay in the loop on all the activity and conversations that takes place on a page. Google will also roll out a feature that shows an aggregated count of users that have engaged with a page, either by +1’ing it or by adding it to a circle.

"This way, both you and your page’s visitors can get an at-a-glance summary of who is interacting with your page."

Facebook’s Opens Private Channel for Brands, Customers

NextWeb reports that Facebook is also introducing an admin change for business users–allowing a page to receive private messages from their fans.  The new communications option has appeared for Asia-based admins only so far, it said, but that could be due to the time difference.

Retailers on Facebook

New stats from an Oracle study suggest that brands, or at least retailers, on Facebook have more progress to make with customers—and possibly a private communication channel could help.

34% of American and Canadian consumers say they would never purchase products via a retailer’s Facebook page, compared to 19% who said they would (9%) or already have (10%) done so, the study found. It also found that 15% of respondents did not know that they could purchase a product via a retailer’s Facebook page.
