As hundreds upon hundreds of Faceboook apps keep popping up (even sparking their own investment fund), new research finds only a handful are actually used by members.
O'Reilly Research's new report, titled The Facebook Application Forum, finds that among 5,000 Facebook applications, 87 percent of general use goes to just 84 applications.
O'Reilly suggests the phenomenon creates a Long Tail, where hundreds of niche apps are spread out among Facebook's millions of users.
Readers disagree, since it appears only the most useful apps are adopted by the majority, and it's simply too soon to give the situation a verdict, considering the brief time Facebook has been open to developers.
