Fandango's Timeline app dubbed "Movies with Friends," has helped drive a significant amount of new traffic and fan engagement, the ticket-selling site says. It recently posted its best first quarter in its 12-year history, with a 127% surge in year-over-year ticket sales, a 58% percent year-over-year increase in monthly visitors (totaling 33 million), and its top quarterly mobile percentage (23%) of total tickets sold.
Other reasons included, not surprisingly, the debut of the Hunger Games and expanded exhibitor reach, having increased its theater network in the first quarter by 19%, with recent deals with AMC Theatres, Regency Theatres and other chains.
The Other Side of the Story
Fandango did not tease out the impact its app had on its banner quarter compared to these other factors. Evidence from other app providers is, in fact, suggesting the opposite: that Facebook app traffic has declined significantly since Timeline launched.

A Third Option
For brands that want the best world apps and Timeline, Tabfusion has developed a way for brands to temporarily do away with Timeline’s two-column format for wall posts, All Facebook writes. The application allows pages to display wall posts in the traditional, one-column format under a tab, while saving the timeline layout for other types of content.
