Experian Reportedly Grabbing PriceGrabber

Rumors are circulating in the blogosphere that Experian will be acquiring comparison-shopping service PriceGrabber, according to a post in Revenews by David Lewis, who referred to the possibility of such a sale back in June. Lewis points out that Experian Interactive's network (Experian Consumer Direct, MetaReward, Affiliate Fuel, LowerMyBills.com, ConsumerInfo.com, etc.) is ranked among the top 20, and "PriceGrabber may give it a nice boost."

In September, PriceGrabber was the in the top 5 most-visited comparison-shopping sites with 6.361 million unique visitors, according to Nielsen/NetRatings figures.

A document on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website seems to show that the FTC has granted a request under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act for an early termination of the customary pre-merger waiting period. GUS plc, Experian's parent, is listed as the purchaser.

Lewis's June prediction came after Scripps announced its acquisition of Shopzilla and eBay announced it was buying Shopping.com.
