Existing Trade Laws Used to Shut Down Spyware Firms

CNET: Spyware opponents win another battle

A New Hampshire federal district court judge issues a retraining order against "spam king" Sanford Wallace and two companies he owns, preventing them from engaging in the spread of spyware. Specifically, the judge said they must not exploit particular security loopholes and must remove their software from all public internet sites. The decision, while technically a temporary one, implies that existing trade laws may be sufficient legal mechanisms to do in spyware, provided enforcement authorities care to use them.
