Ex-Googlers Launch Howcast Instructional Video Site

Howcast videos:
an eclectic bunch

Three ex-Google employees have launched a New York City-based startup called Howcast, which aims to be the YouTube for instructional videos.

Through a director's program, Howcast will pay filmmakers $50 and give them half of the ad proceeds for videos produced for the site. Unlike with YouTube, Howcast producers must abide by stringent standards to publish their work.

The company has reportedly signed distribution deals with MySpace, Verizon for Vcast phones and FiOS TV, Joost, and ROO. JetBlue was the site's advertiser at launch.
