Evangelical Videogame Under Fire, Launches Social Network

Finding Converts in NYC

Set in New York City after millions of Christians have been transported to heaven, Left Behind: Eternal Forces is a teen-rated PC strategy game based on the popular Left Behind Christian book series and has enjoyed brisk sales in Wal-Mart since its recent launch.

But the Campaign to Defend the Constitution, an advocacy group that monitors right-wing religious activities, says the game promotes religious violence and is petitioning Wal-Mart to pull it from shelves, reports Reuters.

Meanwhile, Left Behind Games, maker of the evangelical Christian game, on Wednesday launched a beta version of DreamWebSpace.com, a social-networking site that it promotes as a safe and profanity-free alternative to services like MySpace.com, writes CNET.

"The reality is that our game perpetuates prayer and worship and that there is no killing in the name of God," said Troy Lyndon, CEO of Left Behind Games, which seeks to appeal to America's 60 million evangelical Christians.

"There is killing of course, it is a videogame. But the basis of the game is spiritual welfare."
