Online advertising revenue in Europe is expected to reach EUR6.5 billion by 2010, triple this year's EUR2.3 billion - with paid search dominant - writes ElectricNews.net, citing a JupiterResearch report titled "European Online Advertising Forecasts, 2005 to 2010." In 2004, European paid search revenues totaled EUR0.6 billion, compared with EUR1.1 billion for display advertising. By 2008, paid search is expected to lead the sector. By 2010, paid search is forecast to generate EUR2.9 billion, accounting for 44 percent of total online advertising revenues, compared with EUR2.7 billion for display ads.
The report identifies the U.K. as the largest online advertising market, accounting for 39 percent of total revenues in 2004 with EUR0.9 billion.
The 2006 football (soccer) World Cup is expected to boost online advertising in Germany, with that market predicted to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 22 percent to 2010, driven by huge investments in 2006.
