A European Commission (EC) official warned the mobile TV industry in Europe that if it did not agree on a single technology standard she would do it for them, according to the BBC.
EC telecommunications commissioner Viviane Reding made her comments during a speech to delegates at the Cebit technology fair in Hannover, Germany. She imposed a deadline of summer 2007 on the mobile TV industry to agree on a standard.
Reding said a good candidate for the technology standard was the DVB-H, developed with almost $53 million (40 million euros) of EC research cash.
Last year, the EC helped to set up the European Mobile Broadcasting Council (EMBC), which brought together those with an interest in mobile TV, in an attempt to get stakeholders talking and working toward a unified technology.
